CHALLENGE & OPPORTUNITY
The structural health monitoring of critical infrastructure is increasingly important since structural failures can cause loss of human life as well as damage to local economy.
For example, just over 10 years ago the I-35W bridge over the Mississippi River collapsed and killed 13 people while injuring 145. The collapse cut-off a major traffic artery through downtown Minneapolis for 1+ year at an estimated cost to the economy between $71,000 and $220,000 a day.

The company works on the design, manufacturing and sales of novel sensing systems to monitor deformations and anomalies induced by the presence of cracks, corrosion, debonds or delaminations in structures, such as bridges and pipelines, to allow owners to make informed decisions on repair and replacement -- better allocating their limited resources.
The product has a higher detection accuracy and sensitivity with a much lower manufacturing cost as compared to competitors*. It can rapidly detect and locate structural damage before expensive repair is required and substantial savings on maintenance costs (>30%**) are realized.
