The sensing system consists of three major components: distributed sensors, data acquisition hardware and data analysis software.
1. Sensing "Skin"*
The nanocomposite based sensing ‘skin’ can be attached or embedded to evaluate the structures. It allows for tremendous flexibility in different applications and can conform to flat, curved and more complex surfaces. Sensors can be attached to the surface of existing structures or embedded inside structures.
2. Data Acquisition Module*
The diagnostic hardware is utilized to generate and capture electrical signals from those mounted sensors and transmit results through wired or wireless means.
3. Computer/APP Output Interface*
The analysis software suite with a user interface and easy-to-understand display functions investigates the collected data and quantifies the damage.
